Two teenagers in Pennsylvania developed a low‑cost exhaust filter that uses microalgae to convert vehicle emissions into oxygen. According to Chester County Press, Rohan Kapoor and Jack Reichert, both 18 years old, created the Go Green filter, a device that clamps onto a car’s exhaust pipe. The system uses microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, reducing harmful emissions. Their invention was inspired by research from an MIT professor, and they worked for nearly a year refining the prototype.

The filter is both affordable and effective. According to Chester County Press, it costs about fifty dollars to produce and has been shown in repeated testing to reduce emissions by more than seventy four percent. The teenagers estimate that if all cars used their system, global carbon emissions could be reduced by over sixteen percent.
