UPDATE: DOJ has filed a superseding indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center — raising the alleged total from ~$3M to ~$4.1M in donor money it says was secretly routed to extremist figures.

New claims: those funds reimbursed paid sources for cross-burning costs (wood, fuel) and materials for KKK robes & hoods.

But it cuts both ways — DOJ also quietly rewrote the filing to patch a legal defect prosecutors had already flagged, and the IRS passed on tax charges.

SPLC pleads not guilty; its lawyer says it "changes nothing."
