JUST IN‼️: A federal judge declined Friday to block President Trump from hosting a UFC mixed martial arts event on the White House South Lawn this Sunday. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled against two Washington-area residents who sued to stop “UFC Freedom 250,” arguing the administration lacked congressional authorization and that the arena improperly used federal land for a private, for-profit event.
The fights will take place in an octagonal cage inside a 92-foot-tall structure built on the South Lawn, with fighter weigh-ins at the Lincoln Memorial. The event coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday and is billed as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of America’s founding. More than 4,000 spectators are expected.
The Justice Department argued the plaintiffs failed to show how they would be harmed and cited a long history of public events on the South Lawn.
