NEW🚨: Rand Paul says the Senate Homeland Security Committee has scheduled a contempt vote for next week after Anthony Fauci refused to answer questions at today’s subpoenaed hearing.

Fauci invoked the Fifth repeatedly throughout the hearing rather than answer questions on COVID origins, Wuhan research, gain-of-function, his pandemic-era diary and other decisions now under scrutiny.

The twist is the pardon: Biden already gave Fauci sweeping protection from federal prosecution for much of the conduct Congress is asking about. Paul says that undercuts Fauci’s Fifth Amendment claim. Fauci’s lawyers disagree.

So today’s hearing ended without many answers about COVID, but with a brand new fight over whether Fauci was legally entitled to remain silent at all.
