2026 is shaping up to be one of the most consequential election years in modern U.S. history. All 435 House seats, 33 Senate seats, and 36 governorships are on the ballot- and somewhere between Christmas Eve and New Year’s, they changed the rules on how your vote gets counted.

Rural voters are going to get hit hardest. Mail will sit longer before it’s postmarked, delivery will crawl, and deadlines have tightened like a noose.

If it feels like someone just built an obstacle course between you and the ballot box, that’s because they did- on purpose, with malice aforethought.

But not on my watch.
