It’s hard to ignore how the political and economic tides are hitting us in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Wages haven’t kept up with inflation, and yet the work? It’s only intensified. Sicker patients. Shorter visits. Less support. More expectations.
Meanwhile, there’s a storm brewing around healthcare policy. Discussions about reproductive rights, Medicaid funding, and public health programs are taking center stage, and let’s be honest—it all feels personal. Because we’re not just employees in scrubs. We’re women, mothers, caretakers, and community members who live with the outcomes of these decisions.
I’ve heard from fellow MAs who feel stuck—doing vital work but struggling to afford rent, pay off student debt, or access the same care they provide others. Some are thinking of leaving the field. Others are leaning in and organizing. And many? Just trying to survive the week.
So I’m wondering— How are you feeling as a medical assistant right now? What’s weighing on you? What’s inspiring you to keep showing up?
