I purchased our Sun Cat, Correction, in 2010 and sold her in Ithaca, NY shortly after upgrading to a Cape Dory 25D in 2016ish as we wanted a larger boat for weekend outings with friends on Cayuga Lake. Retired year round now in Southern Vermont I frequently question the decision to let her go as there was no better boat for quick launch at the local lake or for overnight camping on nearby Lake George. For now we make do with a Bauer 10 sailing dinghy when not sailing the Cape Dory still sailed on Cayuga. The Sun Cat’s sailing performance in light wind wasn’t great but we did add a small jib which helped. In a strong gusty bigger lake wind you had to be attentive to reefing as others have commented but you were safe if you were prudent. Her greatest charm was her capacity for people and cargo, easy rig and good looks. She was a great first sailboat that allowed us to transition a bit from performance sea kayaks to sailing. I wish I’d kept her but there’s a couple in RI who likely is still very happy with her and possibly voting for her!
