Well written! I think a lot of mud is thrown at travel because of what it devolved to in the age of Instagram but it is a true luxury of the modern world we can go to so many fascinating places and once off the beaten path in them have such fantastic experiences

My interest in surroundings came through grandparents and parents. In our woodland garden there was part of a Roman cobbled road, shards of Roman pottery and a large hole where they had excavated special blue clay. Also, we had a large stone that was part of a distant circle of Stone Henge called The Standing Stone of Fromefield House and approx 250 yards away another stone.

I suspect neither will be standing now - lost to unscrupulous developers. Thus my historical curiosity was awakened as soo…
