Tree flowers are usually not as showy as garden flowers, but some are quite spectacular. Here is fringetree, Chionanthus virginicus. Each small tree is decked with thousands of very simple flowers with narrow petals. It is largely found in lowlands of the Gulf and Atlantic coastal plains, but is very abundant along the Rockcastle River in southern Kentucky. It is becoming a widely used ornamental.
