Today, girls outscore boys on reading in nearly every country on earth. Yet up to 2012, there were more male published authors than female.

Sit with that for a second. If boys "just weren't readers," men wouldn’t have done well at writing either.

We didn't discover that boys can't read. We had quietly stopped expecting them to — and kids tend to deliver exactly the level of expectation we hand them.

I’m all for gender parity, and this includes boys. There is no reason to say boys can’t read (and write) as well as girls.
