in the Holy Quran

“{And I was not unchaste}”

The word (أكُ) originated from the incomplete present tense verb: (أكون).

But it went through several stages until it became this form!

1️⃣ Its origin: أكون – an incomplete present tense verb from (كان).

2️⃣ The jussive particle (لم) entered upon it, making it jussive with sukoon: لم أكونْ.

3️⃣ The waw was deleted due to the meeting of two quiescent letters, so it became: لم أكنْ.

4️⃣ Then the noon was deleted for lightness if it was followed by a quiescent letter, so it became: لم أكُ.

And this deletion of the noon occurred in the Quran in eighteen instances from the verbs:

(أكون, يكون, نكون, تكون)
