It turns out the Forest Service dismantling is totally illegal. USDA’s own lawyers know it. They told the agency to do it anyway.

Congress passed two laws requiring advance approval before any Forest Service restructuring or relocation. Both chambers. Bipartisan. The President signed them. USDA’s General Counsel wrote an internal memo declaring those laws unconstitutional and told the agency to proceed as if they don’t exist.

The same lawyer who ran the same play in 2019, when USDA illegally relocated two research agencies to Kansas City. The Inspector General said it was illegal. The GAO confirmed it. 75% of staff quit. Congress did nothing. So they’re doing it again, 15 times bigger.

A logging executive as Chief. A billionaire megadonor with zero government experience as his boss. A Federalist Society lawyer producing memos that erase the law. And Mike Lee’s former staffer as the White House liaison.

Every one of them was installed for exactly this purpose.

Call your senators at (202) 224-3121. Tell them Section 716 and Section 421 of their own appropriations bills are being violated by internal memo. Make them answer. Then share this so they can’t pretend they didn’t know.
