This week, twin earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck Venezuela within 40 seconds of each other, collapsing buildings across Caracas, among the strongest seismic events to hit that country in over a century. The same morning, a 7.2 earthquake shook Japan. Meanwhile, Europe recorded its hottest temperatures in living memory - France’s hottest day since records began, 40 people drowned seeking relief from heat that reached 44°C in places that have never seen it - the same week the Bureau of Meteorology officially declared El Niño, and potentially a super El Niño, now loading in the Pacific, already pointing its long shadow toward an Australian summer.

Fire, earth, and water.

All at once, in the same week.

This is Chiron in Taurus. Chiron is the wounded healer, and after eight years in Aries, last week it moved into the sign of the body, and the physical, material, sensory reality of the Earth itself, and almost immediately the wound in the soil and the sky temperature and the ocean surface began speaking at full volume.

Historically, Chiron in Taurus is always when the Earth’s body speaks in terms that cannot be managed, spun, or postponed.

Chiron in Taurus from 1976–1983 gave us the second oil crisis, Love Canal (the first major toxic waste scandal in the US), Three Mile Island, and the Ethiopian famine. It was also when James Lovelock published the Gaia hypothesis, that the Earth was as a living body. The wound of the Earth’s body was named during the last Chiron-in-Taurus period.

The cycle before that, Chiron in Taurus from 1926–1933 gave us the Dust Bowl, when industrial farming stripped the topsoil of the American plains until it literally blew away. The body of the land could no longer hold what was being asked of it. The Earth said enough, and the earth blew.

Chiron in Taurus is always a time when what has been done to the body of the Earth can no longer be contained; the wound surfaces and the body speaks. What the sky right now is reminding us is we cannot step into the Age of the Heart while the body of the Earth is in crisis, because the heart lives in a body, and the body lives on an Earth - it’s all the same thing. Chiron in Taurus demands that we reckon with what we have taken from the land, the ocean, and the sky, and it’s asking us to feel the cost clearly enough to actually change what we do next. The wound has to be felt before the healer can emerge from it.

Chiron stays in Taurus until 2032, and it’s joined by Saturn in Taurus in 2028 - the planet of structure sitting directly on the wound of the world for two years. What is being disclosed now is the beginning of a reckoning that will deepen before it heals. But Chiron’s arc always moves from wound toward gift - the healer who heals because they have survived what others couldn’t. The gift encoded in Chiron in Taurus, worked with honestly, is a civilisation that finally understands the body of the Earth as its own body. That treats the land as living, and organises itself around what the ground can sustain rather than what extraction can extract.

Somewhere right now, people are pulling each other from rubble, and children are being carried toward shade that isn't cool enough. This is the wound, real and human, and the sky demands that, this time, we not look away.

The Age of the Heart and the healing of the Earth are not separate projects. They are the same. The heart does not live above the ground. It was always the ground. And the healing has begun, whether we are ready or not.
