The app for independent voices

Dobie Gray is not a one-hit wonder, but he is known for that one song. So it is appropriate that this album has a cover of I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash. You might think “oh no, it disco, isn’t it?” Nope. This may have dropped in ‘78 when everyone was getting up to boogie, but Gray is working with Rick Hall and the Fame team. So it doesn’t disco, but it does groove with a bit of country honk. The kind that reminds you that Gray had that one hit. But the mix of originals and covers--We’ve Got to Get It On Again and Sharing the Night Together--are so winning that you will be impressed. And the Johnny Nash cover is so warm and locked in that you might find yourself drifting away to it.
