William Blake has a wonderful line in his work, ‘The Marriage of Heaven and Hell’:

“The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom.”

If we don’t follow a misguided desire through, we may never fully understand its nature. This can leave us dipping in and out of it for the rest of our lives. But in going all the way, we come to know it completely and increase the chance of letting it go.
