there's something about trains, right? that train whistle off in the distance, a truly romantic sound. if you've never travelled by train, I highly recommend it. The cover for Stealing the Midnight from a Handful of Days was based on the above photo taken early November, 2012 on a trip going from Chicago to Albuquerque... for a couple of poetry readings that turned out to be quite epic.
a memorable trip, indeed. That trip changed my life. It was both a culmination of events coming to a head and a turning point, a major fork in the road. I write about it in Stealing. Mostly in code lol.
I had this vision in my head of the cover that I struggled to bring about with my limited photoshop skills. I got this idea to somehow blend the photo with a painting that I got my daughter Kat to do.
Whatever words I used to describe what I wanted, Kat pulled it off impeccably. Still, I struggled to blend the images just right... and further, I couldn't get the font to make like I wanted.
I decided to call in a favor from one of my good, OLD friends from my hometown. and, seemingly without much effort, James came up with my favorite cover of all time...
The whole process took months and months. Much like the editing of Stealing. About nine months, I believe. Just like birthin a baby.
this post first appeared on my patreon where I post on a regular basis, mostly things not on my other socials. Decided to post it over here after reading a post about the origins of Punk Hostage Press by the one, the only A. Razor.
