Today it was the:
1. Stressed out administrator who checked me in to my medical procedure. She slowed down long enough to tell me about her cool eyeglasses and how she procured them.
2. The youthful and nervous prep nurse who helped with diagnostic machinery, setting my IV line, and sharing how no one ever asked her about "the most hilarious thing they happened to her at work."
3. The seasoned OR nurse and Anesthesiologist who couldn't do enough to fluff my pillow (?) And arrange my awkward surgical gown as I rolled onto the gurney prior to them pumping me with Propofol.
4. The recovery nurse who let me sleep a few more minutes because she "could tell I was having a great dream about my wife" and rewarded me with an abundance of cookies and juices.
5. My bride of 33 years who has schlepped me and so many in our family, advocating, loving, and being the standard-bearer for care and compassion.
From her I have learned that this type of interpersonal behavior is not an act, it is real and...meaningful so long as it truly contributes to the good and benefit of others.
What she writes about being tacit is often times much more powerful and meaningful on a sub-molecular and neuro-cognitive level than you might be aware.
