I feel it’s better to encourage the habitat (forage) they evolved with, rather than to provide exotic foods in engineered contrivances—which also cater to non-native rodents & other pests. Nest boxes are another case in point: I’ve put up a few, which I constructed of scrap or repurposed wood, but birds prefer to use the 22 snags I’ve left standing on our ½ acre.
