What I’m worried about are the implicit costs in actually the “caring.” You might only have to spend $0.01 to save 150 shrimp from an agonizing death, but what about all that time spent thinking and writing about the Shrimp that could have otherwise gone to worthy causes, like my dopamine hit from browsing softcore porn on TikTok?
While I can perhaps bear the $10 donation to offset the harm caused by all the shrimp I'll eat in my entire life, what I can't handle is the opportunity cost of my limited bandwidth to care. Donating would mean I admit it matters, causing me to spend my limited care-budget on Shrimp.
