Trump can go left, yes. Looking at his pattern of behavior, statements, and general theme, I think that’s mostly the result of negotiating or strategically packaging something he wants (e.g. low taxes, trade agreements, etc.) with something his potential opposition wants that he can tolerate, so that his efforts won’t be blocked.

We live in an age where we feel a need to idolize or demonize. Trump uses populist tactics, as with his “low-brow” but highly popular social media presence (all caps, jabs, gloating, etc.). He uses them effectively though, and probably wouldn’t play it this way if it weren’t what works.

I didn’t realize the connection between JD Vance and Peter Theil. It makes me like Vance a little more.
