Thank you for sharing! Some thoughts I have…
If I had to push back on any major cut, it would likely be the math major. I think it will be hard for any university, USAFA included, to maintain premier STEM programs if they lack a math major. Looking at AFIT, they maintain math/statistics programs in spite of low enrollment. I think a better COA would be to emphasize the practical and applicable parts of mathematics in a math major. For example, AI development relies heavily on mathematics so if USAF wants to be leading the charge, they need officers knowledgeable on the underlying principles behind it.
In regard to a new “Cyberspace Operations department”, it feels like that isn’t a representative name for operations research/data science. AFIT for example calls their associated department Operational Sciences.
Economics doesn’t seem to be in the same category as history, political science, and geospatial science when looking at majors to cut. While it is a “soft science”, its relevance to the DoD is immense, especially when operating in a fiscally constrained environment. Game theory is a very relevant part of econ as well, although I assume a World Conflicts major would heavily cover that subject.
