Lots of people want to be in porn. (Or, lots of gay men, anyway -- I can’t speak exactly to how this works for straight people.) It’s a specific form of wanting to be seen and desired. I don’t think it’s best understood as something people necessarily do for economic maximization. A ton of porn isn’t even monetized these days -- people posting it to Twitter or other platforms essentially as a hobby.

Porn can also serve as marketing for sex work -- not so different a combination from Twitter and Substack. And the need to do that marketing won’t go away with AI.
