Yes. Orwell wrote about this in "1984." War as an excuse both for profit and for keeping the standard of living depressed for "the poors." Nothing ever gets much better for workers--and that's the point. You don't want workers with rising expectations/demands. You want them desperate and thankful for any job they have--even cranking out bombs and bullets for Bibi's genocide in Gaza.
