It would be easy to become jaded and “give the people what they want.” After all, one could get a contract to be paid by the word for screeds that ree about the things the tech bro communists want to see pushed, as does Stephen King judging only by the output of his Twitter account. Yet, I know, in my soul where things that matter are known, that “I am here because I care.”
This world isn’t an easy place to live and work. And, in a period within the scope of one to nine million years (what an astronomer might call “on the order of five million years”) this entire region of space will be obliterated by the collision of the core of the Andromeda galaxy with our own Milky Way galaxy. Yet, I have never seen nihilism as any sort of refuge or pathway.
There is purpose to existence, which anyone can see in the face of a newborn child, especially their own. God loves us and wants us to be free and independent, wants us to raise up generations of great men and women, wants us to have the power to do great things. Curiously, these ideas are not popular. You’d think they might have wider appeal. -grin-
