I saw folks online respond to an article about the flag flown half staff all weekend at spots of queer cultural significance (West Hollywood and Fire Island), suggesting it was not intended for Charlie Kirk and was meant for 9/11. These are not private citizens, they are municipalities who know about the order. Why do we have such low expectations for each other and offer excuses to keep the status quo? I want to be generous and skeptical, but institutions and the state are showing us what they value with this display, and I believe them. Thanks for your words, Ivory.
