Wow this review had teeth! I like that. I’m not watching this “film” because of what you have just described. I watched Drive Away Dolls and I felt like a guy trying his best to want to like something that just wasn’t for me. In fact it felt like it was made specifically not for me. It felt like a waste of good actors.
Also your description of the boof beads cleaning… Wow. It sounds ri-goddamn-diculous.
As far as digital vs film I would like to share my feelings as clearly as I can.
Film is better period. Digital photography and digital video suffers from blown out edges and a lack of capturing the color black. I am seriously wondering how something can fuck up the color black.
The best directors use film.
Now with that being said, digital media tools is what I use. I do so because I want desperately to get what’s in my head out of my head and into the world so I can turn the page on all the things that rattle around my head. My shit is proudly cheap and free and that’s my style.
But if I’m paying top dollar to watch a movie and the director has the skill set to use film it makes me question why. And I think it’s because it’s cheap and fast.
Being cheap can be expensive! I strongly prefer filmed movies at the theater.
I’m not sure if this film was in the theaters but it doesn’t matter. Digital looks worse on flat screens than it does in the theaters.
I’m going to stop right here because I’m losing my train of thought and it’s a beautiful day out.
Thank you Gala for saying what you said about the male gaze. Females gaze too! We all gaze.
