I had the opportunity to check on the progress at Helsinki Shipyard only twenty days after it began production work on a ‘heavy’ polar icebreaker for Canada. Click through to see some pictures and a video as the shipyard builds the first block.

I’ll be tracking this closely to conclusively demonstrate something I’ve been saying for years, but my voice never seems to reach DC:

Finnish companies can design and build ‘heavy’ icebreakers, the kind that are useful for North America. And they can do it quickly.
