Matt Yglesias is what you’d get if the Dunning-Krueger effect gained sentience and figured out it could monetize being wrong online. Truly one of the most glib, pseudo-intellectual “well, akshually” statbois to roam the internet. I didn’t think I could loathe him any more—then I saw this title. Then I read the article.
I try to avoid ranting into the internet void, but this one really did me in. How do you write an article on educational policy in the year of our lord 2025 and not even mention that the DOE is literally being dismantled!? And your argument is that NCLB good actually? High stakes testing good actually? Unions bad actually? Sweet Jesus! Guys like this really need SATs, GPAs, and college rankings, etc. to matter because their entire sense of self is predicated on their ability to point to a piece of paper that “proves” they are the smartest guy in the room. Our pundit class is so deeply and utterly embarrassing.
