Since the article is about -ism’s, I believe egoism is a problem today especially with social media.

Some have built themselves up in recognition and acceptance. Their ego is fortified by follower counts and they chase the ghost of making more content but losing sight of their authenticity.

I think Aubrey’s feeling of being attacked was not about his lifestyle but how people feel the others in the relationship are being manipulated while also touting his relationship choice as being more evolved than traditional monogamy. I don’t think he meant to offend or trigger people, but he leaned so heavily to defend himself later, the spiritual community kept pushing back.
