I think you’re right. I have tried a bit of new dark romance and (apart from Brynne Weaver’s “we only torture bad people” wannabe humorous ‘Butcher and Blackbird’ series) it feels unpleasant and problematic. Mafia romance feels the same. What a depressing conclusion.
