Gurdjieff stated his aim clearly in the Paris meetings: to develop candidates to be followers of Ashiata Shiemash. Not to create a mass movement. Not to democratize enlightenment. To form a spiritual elite, a vanguard capable of helping normalize being-conditions in a world that had deviated catastrophically from cosmic law. His efforts were explicitly anti-democratic and elitist because that is what “normal” looks like. That is how the cosmos operates. Democracy and egalitarianism are not neutral systems that happen to have some drawbacks. They are fundamental disorders, pathologies that emerge when humanity loses touch with hierarchical reality.
