I wish I could remember the podcast series we listened to but it made a good argument to disregard the confessions of children. The burden of proof needs to be much higher than the confessions that can be squeezed out of scared and confused children.
The secondary tragedy is that in these cases the actual monster is not only free but resting easy knowing that they have someone else for it. It makes one fear that in these cases the police are more concerned with closing the case than finding justice.
