I suspect we will survive as a nation, of laws, of institutions, of peoples that may assimilate, around certain values and aspirations that remain roughend around the edges, but none-the-less bound us together. We have always been best in pursuit of the future, something very attractive to immigrants (legal or otherwise), and nearly mythological for us red-white-and-blue-chest-thumpers when the bands start playing the old favorites. Hope and a call to prepare for that moment is contained in your simple paragraph. Hopefully, your readers will pull their britches up, zip the fly or raise the side zipper, readying for action, together.
