This is a beautiful piece, Jen! As a veteran of the Vietnam era, I appreciate your words. I appreciate you sharing this. I have to agree that this country, as it is now, (so politically divided) is a disappointment. I have been to over two-thirds of the world thanks to my military service and my now seven year retirement. I love the USA ๐บ๐ธ.
The world use to love the USA. NOT anymore!
When people from other countries find out that I am an American, they ask me WTF? ๐ณ my answer is an apology. Really? I feel like I need to apologize for being an American! No, I really do.
America use to be the shining light for freedom. Now, not so much.
I am actually embarrassed by what is happening in this country. It is a betrayal. Our forefathers are probably rolling over in their graves every time ICE agents detain American citizens for no cause. I vomit ๐คฎ every time I see a civilian getting beat up for no reason. This is not my America. This is not the home of the free because of the brave. This could be Russia, China, North Korea or any banana republic with a wannabe dictator.
You are right, my friend. This is a betrayal, plain and simple!
