Excellent.

“Enthusiasm is for the propagandised, nihilism is for the enlightened” sounds like a perfect heraldic motto for the Western left (to be placed under a portrait of Saint Leo and Hannah Arendt shaking hands).

I’d like to add a third entry to your list of nihilisms, and it’s perfectly related to the use of the patronizing phrase “But at what cost?” (let’s call it BAWC and the mindset behind it bawcism). Western “progressives” are so detached from the reality of the lives of most of the global population that they cannot even imagine basic improvements of living conditions as a form of liberation. The Chinese are building affordable housing at record speed? Nicaragua has better hospital services than richer ‘democracies’? Those Sahel dictators are building, omg, roads and power plants? “BAWC?? Because those are dictatorships without a vibrant civil society! Their people would sure prefer “freedom” to electrical power and skilled first aid!” Freedom meaning living in a comprador fake republic where we would gladly send “aid” and NGO “advisors”, of course. That’s our enlightened compassionate liberals - idealist in self-perception, nihilist in their neglect of the material conditions of life.
