The app for independent voices

My husband Ben turns 46 today. He doesn't like to be put on public display, but today I'm going to tell you about him.

He's from Colorado but moved to the Midwest because we fell in love long distance in 2006, after meeting on a dating website - before smartphones and apps.

He wore a kilt to our wedding, and I adopted his paternal Scottish family motto “Reviresco,” which translates to “I grow strong again.”

He gets up early and goes to bed late, after tucking in the kids and emptying the dishwasher.

He always makes a homemade dark chocolate torte with raspberry compote for my birthday.

Every year, he takes care of our aging neighbors’ yard full of leaves so they don't have to worry about it.

For almost ten years, he served as a volunteer sheriff's deputy for Elkhart County and still reminisces about how fulfilling it was to help people in crisis.

Today, I honor the man who has stood by my side for almost twenty years. Love takes many shapes over a lifetime. Today, it's a quiet ember - a subtle orange glow.
