I honestly don't know if we had many bad parishes. I stopped attending in my teenage years and came back to Church on Palm Sunday of this year.

I will say that the average formation in this area was pretty rough -- lots of emphasis on rules and tradition without much emphasis on going deeper into the mystery.

Things definitely seem to have changed for the better in the last 20 years. I'm not too familiar with the inner politics of it all though.
