So interesting. I'm coming at this from the lens of being the parent of a college student who is struggling to launch and as a long time middle school educator who recently became an elementary school librarian. I've been really baffled by my students' inability to sit and listen to a (funny! age appropriate!) story. I do allow for a lot of free play time in the library because I can see how starved they are for it. My daughter is often slightly reproachful for how hands off we've been in various ways, but I don't subscribe to the idea that I help her grow by protecting her from everything.
