Ukraine probably needs a respite from the war, since their “allies” never went all the way in supporting them with the needed weapons, sanctions, etc, to really break Russia.

Obviously any agreements with Russia are worthless, and so are “security guarantees” from the US and Europe. Only foreign troops stationed in the new border may be a serious deterrent.
