The 'not too crazy yet' window timing is actualy brilliant for first-timers. I see alot of winter travel guides that skip over this shoulder period, but avoiding heavy snow while still getting the winter lights and hot ramen is kinda ideal. Last time I went north in peak season everything was beautiful but honestly a lot to handle with all the ice.
