I’ve been seeing this trend here on Substack “I studied as a Neuroscientist and now I’m a therapist so hire me to speak and believe what I say”. But when you ask them to cite their research for their claim they start talking in circles and stop responding.
When I started in the mental health field there was no such thing as an Instagram influencer. The idea that one would become a therapist to gain followers on Instagram was not even a possibility. We were all in it to try to help actual clients— not to gain fame. Every time I get excited to learn from someone I seem to quickly find out that they are just seeking fame and using their “training” and “license” to get there.
How horrible for people suffering who need real data.
