Everyone has a different motivation to become a consultant. The big four are:
Maximise income.
Build a business.
Have freedom.
Create Impact.
Mine has always been freedom.
I never want to be in an office or at a desk at any given time. I want the flexibility to do what I want when I feel like it.
It’s important to clearly identify your north star as you go through the difficult moments.
That might mean dealing with demanding clients, trying to get Ariba to accept your invoices, or struggling to juggle multiple deadlines.
Don’t make it theoretical; make sure it’s literally something you benefit from.
Too many people become consultants, trading a stable income and a difficult boss for an unstable income and half a dozen bosses.
Being crystal clear about your north star is critical to fulfilment as a solo consultant.
