Very well-said, Eddie. I’ve been thinking on this topic a lot, as every year I watch the best and brightest twenty-something’s I know from our community move to DC, Charlotte, and NYC to become anonymous salarymen for major corporations that profoundly reshape their relationship with home, church, work, and the transcendent. Not that all such jobs are evil. Not at all. But the thoughtless, almost automatic process that leads them there—with parents applauding every step toward this end and prestigious universities priding themselves in making the very best cogs for the machine—is increasingly baffling to me. We are not counting the cost.
