A man gives up immortality with a goddess in favor of his mortality, as he inherently knows the inevitability of death is what gives life meaning. Perhaps what we should learn from both The Iliad and The Odyssey is to live life with zeal, vitality, and gratitude for the limited amount of time we are granted; ever striving to be better.
