Truly, though, it wasn’t his beliefs that killed him. It was his unaddressed emotions. Obviously, he would’ve been feeling grief and anger given his partner’s death. Anger or disappointment over anything else that might’ve occurred — the failure of late-stage capitalism to deliver any real gains to the middle class is reason enough. Or perhaps he suffered some mental illness but whatever the case, the obsession with news and conspiracy is clearly a symptom, not the cause. It was providing him some form of escape from himself.
As always, that anger turns toward the most vulnerable amongst us. Haitians are vulnerable, and I hate watching this demonization of a people who are simply trying to survive.
Something I’ve witnessed: even people who have very happy lives becoming angrier due to the propaganda they consume. It’s sad.
