Had I worked at a uni with 5 year review instead of tenure, in 2020 there is no question at all that I would have been fired. Admin, students, and many of my colleagues were insisting on it and without tenure I would have had no basis from which to push back. Adjunct faculty cannot speak out about issues on which they have knowledgeable perspectives if their views run against fashionable academic manias.
