Nice to see a photo of a familiar local building on the corner of Shaw Road and Heaton Moor Road. Around 1990 the young baker used to live in an end of terrace house abutting the footpath on the way to the nearby St John’s primary school in Heaton Mersey where his son and daughter went as did mine. We used to go to his bakery for bread and when my daughter was pre-school to another, Nixon’s I think, on Shaw Road for forest fruits cream tarts for lunch after morning nursery. We still have a bakery at Moor Top, part of a chain called Martins. Good for parkin in the run up to bonfire night.

An independent bakery on the A6 in Hazel Grove used to make great Eccles cakes but sadly burnt down a year or two ago. Luckily the ones from M&S are even better.
