This is the most insightful, provocative, and well written article on this topic that I have encountered. Selecting a major and aligning with a career are arguably the most important aspects of the college experience. This is because students' highest stated priority for attending college is to get a good career. Yet, colleges, especially larger ones, have made little progress in supporting students in this priority. Much is being written about declining trust, and the supposed solutions from the Academy point to "telling our story better." That is superficial. The problems are systemic and Professor Mintz highlights a major one here. It's really hard to trust an institution when they are not aligned to deliver on one of the major promises that students expect. Exceptional as usual Professor!
