I think we all, at times, feel as if we’re “digging at dirt” as we’re reading the second part of this novel. I agree with what you said about trying to “piece the story together” while feeling like you’re “in a maze”. That is the perfect description of what it’s like to read the second part of The Savage Detectives. It’s very labyrinth-like. It’s complex. It’s confusing. Constantly encountering new characters increases the challenge of piecing together the story. And for this reason, I’m very grateful that we’ve embarked on this Bolaño-reading journey together as a class.
We are all lost in the maze together.
