I’m afraid the Republicans remain a heavily racist party, although obviously blanket statements like that can be dangerous. Of course there are many individual republicans who don’t support the idiotic policies of the Trump administration. Had this happened during Trump 1.0 perhaps it wouldn’t have been an issue because surely someone would have advised him not to be a complete asshole on the matter. But those days are gone. Primary qualification for cabinet members now is complete loyalty and fealty no matter what sort of bullshit decisions come down from the wanna-be dictator Trump. Republicans do seem happy to let Trump carry on being his absolute worst version of himself. That’s the part I really don’t understand. They are choosing not to run for office again in droves rather than stand up to a clearly corrupt president. This seems very much like many in the party TACOing, if we can make a verb out of that descriptor. Where and when did they lose their backbones en mass??
